The wage gap is a problem that affects society on many different levels. As previously stated, stakeholders for the gender wage gap extend far beyond just women, which in and of itself equates to roughly half the population. This is not to say that all women are affected, but in general the gap exists and is representative of a major societal issue. American families are at the heart of those affected by the consequences of unequal pay because they indirectly receive the burden of their mothers and spouses not earning the income potential they should be. They see this problem first hand because it could mean that a father must work extra hours to make up for the loss, or a single mother is forced to get a second job or work longer shifts to
