Various gender movements all over the world have been trying to eliminate discrimination against women. However, the differences between salaries of male and female employees have persisted over time. This gender pay gap involves the disparity between the hourly wages of men and women under the assumptions of equal work and work value. The article “Defining Economic Success for Women: Closing the Gender Pay Gap” by Rotella Laura, Maniam Balasundram, and Subramaniam Geetha talks about this discrimination as well as the trends that are allowing women close the gap gradually. Lips article “Acknowledging Discrimination as a Key to the Gender Pay Gap” published by Sex Roles on December 5, 2012 gives its perspective on the gender wage gap by focusing on discrimination as the main factor. The purpose of her article is to establish that discrimination is a factor to the gender pay gap. This article also conducted various surveys to prove her point. The author declares graduate women who work in their first full year and less and incur debt than men who also graduated. A comparison done with other articles makes her very detailed article with the studies and survey’s conducted. Hilary M. Lips show the result of the studies and surveys done and also use other statistics to support her claim. This article is very dependable as it gives detailed studies and surveys done that aid the reader in understanding the gender pay …show more content…
The language used in this article is very easy to understand with the self-explanatory studies and surveys. The author cited work they used from other research, studies and surveys. This article is detailed, structured very well and is helpful to inform readers about acknowledging discrimination as a key to the gender wage gap. Overall, the reader found that both Laura Rotella et. al. and Hilary M. Lips articles are helpful to his project. They both presented information regarding what the reader wanted and answered about the ways discrimination is a major factor in the gender pay gap and how gradually the gap is closing. Their content was very detailed as compared to the other articles the reader had in his possession. This reader would recommend these authors to anyone who is trying to understand the gender wage gap and how gradually is being
