Teaching The Skill Of Sweeping

Improved Essays
When teaching the skill of sweeping or brushing to novice curlers necessary to always remember the three basic fundamentals. These fundamentals are body weight, brush speed and footwork. Throughout the process of teaching our skill we will continue to highlight these fundamentals ensuring that our teens will remember them and hopefully demonstrate them as they continue to curl. During our teaching of the skill it is important to note that we will always be watching for unsafe practices on the ice making it a safe place and hopefully no one will be hurt. Also because sweeping is the most labour intensive part of curling during our plan we will be sure to watch our students, making sure we do not over exert them. We are teaching high school students …show more content…
One of us will show them how we do it and the other will discuss important things. We will talk about how should use the footwork to maintain the same speed as the rock being thrown. Also we will remind them that their feet should never cross over the should just be demonstrating a simple shuffle step along the side of a rock. We will also remind the students that it is important to remember that they should never interfere with the rock itself, they should never kick it or touch it with their brooms. After we have demonstrated the shuffle step we will show the students the other type of footwork called the in and out method. We will explain to them that this is a more complex type of footwork that should only be used if they are first comfortable with the shuffle step. Although it is more complex we will encourage our students to try this method. We will do the same for the in and out method as we did for the shuffle. We will first demonstrate how the footwork is done. After and during the demonstration we will give pointers on how to ensure you are doing the method correctly. Once both types of footwork have been taught we will get the kids to line up and go up and down the ice using whichever type of footwork they are comfortable with. Assuming most students will start with the shuffle step we will encourage them to try out the in and out method when they are comfortable. While the students are going up and down the ice practicing us teacher will be watching each student to give pointers and try to help then be the most efficient sweepers possible. It is important to note that we will be asking the students to just put pressure onto the broom when trying out the footwork. We do not want them actually sweeping during this step. By doing this we hope to allow our students to get more comfortable with their

The Throwing Skills to Pay the Bills Of the key elements of a well-rounded softball player, a good throwing arm is definitely near the top of the list. While some are lucky enough to be born with throwing skills, even they won't be hurt by softball throwing drills which aim to improve distance and accuracy. When demonstrating these softball throwing drills, make sure to run through each drill at half speed first before increasing the pace. Also give every player who desires a chance to practice the motions slowly first. Not only will this reduce the chances of unnecessary injury, it will also allow the player to feel the correct way of doing things which will translate when the motions are sped up.…

Coach Hunter is an important person to me, because he taught me how to play lacrosse, which I still play to this day. Coach Hunter was an average size man with a very short beard and always seemed to be wearing a beanie. I first met him at my first practice for the North Penn Dragons. When I was first introduced to him he told me he would be my coach and that he would teach me how to play. Most of my team were also new players, so we all had a lot of things to learn in the first weeks before our first games.…

Blast is a winter retreat for both middle school and highschool students in Wisconsin Dells. Blast only lasts for a weekend but it is an amazing opportunity to learn more about God and about your friends. We start off Blast by singing songs, making jokes, and talking in hilariously bad British accents on a two and a half hour drive to Wisconsin. Once we arrive at the Kalahari Resort we have time to get settled into our rooms and go to the first Blast lesson. The Blast lessons are presented at different times so that in between lessons we have time to either go to the huge indoor pool or the indoor theme park.…

In my academic experience, I have used surface learning during my whole high school in only my history classes. In these types of classes I only attempted to memorize definitions and facts so that I could pass the test or quizzes. I have never been that great with any history class or anything else that falls into the category. When people start talking about historical things I honestly feel so lost because I have no clue what they are talking about. Those types of facts never stayed in my head and they vanished as soon as the test was over.…

There is no substitute for activities in a classroom that require your hands. (Cleaver). Ideas like this show just how important these activities are, especially for a student’s cognitive learning. A classroom must be focused on interactive activities rather than having an over reliance on testing. The best way students get the most out of what they are being taught is by actually doing what they learn and applying it accordingly.…

These questions really tied everything together and helped the students think about the important pieces of information so they would remember the next time they bowled. Repetition and question and answer were teaching techniques I witnessed Mr. Dunn use repeatedly throughout the day. Having students recall the information and piece it all together was an excellent way to finish up the class because they could carry the information with them throughout the day. While creating the lesson plans for my 10-day unit, I made a template to guide me in my instruction. For the procedure section of my lesson plan, I have split each class into three different parts: theory instruction (12 minutes), assessment/activity (15 minutes), and singing (25 minutes). Theory instruction is when I am using my knowledge of student’s prior skills to expand on what they know, and teach new concepts that will link to those from before. During the assessment/activity, I make sure that the students comprehended and can apply what they learned during the first 12 minutes. During the singing portion of class, we work on learning and perfecting the repertoire for upcoming performances.…
