As social media becomes a vital tool for universities and colleges, admission offices start to implement it as part of their recruitment practice. In a 2008 survey done by Dr. Nora Barnes and Eric Mattson for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), demonstrated that at least 85% of college admission offices utilizes social media outlets to recruit potential students. (NACAC, 2009). The use of social media is then used as a form of guidance to determine potential candidates for their colleges, scholarships, and high demand programs.

However, this type of use of social media can create ethical concerns in higher education. Students may argue that it is unethical for colleges and universities to be allowed to determine
