Reflective Essay: Being Bullied Changes As A Person

Being bullied changes you as a person. Sometimes this is a bad change, sometimes it is a good change. After being bullied, I feel as if I have changed for the better. After being bullied you learn valuable things about people. Looking back on the event, I can see why my bully did it. Everybody wants attention, everybody wants to feel needed, and everybody wants to feel included. Some people just find a bad way to get it; any attention is still attention whether it is negative or positive.
Before all this happened I was happy. I loved going to school, I had good teachers and I loved seeing my friends. I didn’t have a problem in the world. Besides how many problems could a nine or ten year old have? I had a lot despite this assumption.

The type of bullying that I was subjected to is called social and emotional bullying. This type of bullying is the social exclusion of a child. It is a fact that girls are more likely to do this type of bullying. Teachers should be noticing this on the playground when a child is alone and not talking to anyone and apart from all of their classmates for multiple days in a row. Teachers should notice when a student is there before recess or lunch and not there after recess or lunch. Teachers should notice when a student is missing multiple days of school for supposed illness. Teachers should notice when a student who used to be interested in school and activities show lack of interest. My parents told me that I had a couple options for next year. I was going to apply to Tomken Road Middle School for the SciTech program; as a back-up, my parents are going to apply for flex boundaries at Lisgar Middle School. Sadly I didn’t get in to the program because I couldn’t answer the written test they had the applicants write because I wasn’t taught how to answer those questions. The good thing is that my parents had successfully got flex boundaries for so that I could go to Lisgar.
Five days before the start of grade six a family friend, who was not part of the bullying, called my mom to say that my name was on the class list at my home elementary school. Turns out that nobody called to tell my parents that a couple days ago the flex boundaries that my mom fought hard to get was no longer in affect and I was registered to go back to the school that didn’t notice the
