The baby will be weighted at birth and then again in the first week. The baby will have a physical examination which will be to check the baby’s eye’s, hips, heart and testicles (boys). The baby will also have a hearing test to make sure there is no problems.
FIVE-EIGHT DAYS
The baby will have a heel prick test that will screen for some rare diseases. This will be performed by a midwife.
SIX-EIGHT WEEKS

Both the man and women should make sure that they are eating a healthy diet when they want to start a family. There has been research done that shows that it makes a difference to the parents and baby’s health but it can also help the couple to conceive.
If the woman is overweight or underweight this can have a impact on the chance of her falling pregnant.
Poor diet has increased risks to the baby which include low birth weight and infant mortality. Baby’s that are born with a low birth weight also are at high risk of childhood illness and other conditions e.g. visual impairment, hearing problems, neuro developmental delay and behaviour disorders. They may also show less development of language and social skills.
Overweight / obesity
Women who are overweight / obese are more likely to have premature or low birth weight babies. Obese people are at high risk of complications and can find it hard to respond to fertility treatments. They may ovulate less often, but there are other reasons as well.
