Besides having contrasting purposes, Triumph of the Will and “The Mom Song” Old Spice commercial are different in numerous ways. The first dissimilarity is the way in which both view their respective audiences. The film sees their audiences as passive viewers. Most people watching are already Nazi supporters hoping to be informed of what happens at other rallies. For the few that aren’t already advocates for the movement, they hope to inspire them to become a member of the Party. Old Spice, however, sees the consumer as an active audience. Old Spice, with images of mothers slithering around while their sons go on dates singing a ridiculous song, emphasizes humor and entertainment. They want the consumer to laugh at how obviously outlandish the commercials are. The Nazi Party, on the other hand, accentuates pride and nationality with images of German traditional dress, the bustling city from above, and happy and strong soldiers. Lastly, the most obvious difference is the purpose. The Nazi leaders wanted people to support their movement, and Triumph of the Will was meant to accomplish that goal even if it was through inconspicuous coercion.
