What Is The Difference Between Midazolam And Propofol

Decent Essays
Anaesthesia facilitates a wide variety of surgical procedures. Patients generally receive a combination of anaesthetic and analgesic agents to induce and maintain an adequate depth of anaesthesia and analgesia.

Midazolam and propofol are both widely used for intravenous sedation. Midazolam has sedative, anxiolytic and amnesic effects and may be useful for reducing fear and anxiety in dental patients [5]. Propofol has sedative and antiemetic effects [6] and has a short context-sensitive half-time that allows for rapid awakening and recovery of consciousness. It has been used in the behavioural management of patients with involuntary movements, such as those with cerebral palsy or learning difficulties.

When I grow up, I want to become an anesthesiologist. To become an anesthesiologist, I will need four years of medical school and three to four years of residency (on-the-job training), in addition to a bachelor's degree. Anesthesiologists are the physicians responsible for administering general or regional anesthesia, which allows surgeons and other physicians to complete invasive procedures with little to no discomfort to the patient. Anesthesiologists also closely monitor a patient's vital signs and critical life functions before, during and after a surgery – making rapid decisions on limited data when required. To say that the profession is stressful is an understatement.…

According to Ong, Lirk, Seymour, and Jenkins (2005), some specific procedures of anesthesia best for this kind of study includes epidural analgesia, local anesthetics, and other procedures such as nerve blocks. I will be conducting a survey consisting of previously published survey questions regarding the pre-operation and post-operation pain ratings of the patient, the procedure of anesthesia the patient will undergo, the pre-operation and post-operation pain complaints, and the amount of medicine needed to relieve patient pain during recovery. The variables I will be comparing are the pain scale values, the actual pain complaints, and the methods of pain management and anesthesia…
