Comparing Two Different Types Of Permissive Parenting

Asian parents are stricter compared with the Western parents. Although there are variety of parenting styles around the world. Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, financial, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child aside from the biological relationship. (The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Social Work by Martin Davies) The most common examples of parenting styles are the authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and uninvolved. Asian parents especially Chinese use the authoritarian parenting style while the Western use permissive parenting style. Authoritarian parents set strict rules and require their children to fully obey to the rules. Even from when they were younger, authoritarian parents tend to stop them from doing things or make decisions freely. An American lawyer named Amy Chua believes in combining both styles of parenting. This is because when the children are younger they still listen to their parents well. When they are entering their teenage years, they will start to develop their self-direction. The goals of permissive parenting and authoritarian parenting are similar but are implemented in very different ways and styles. Both kinds of parents wanted their children to be the best and grow up well so that they can excel in life. According to the differences in both styles of parenting, it shows that the permissive parents are more flexible and the authoritarian parents are more extreme. Both sides want their children to be excellent but also want them to learn through different kind of situations with their own styles of parenting and teachings based on their own knowledge in raising children.
