The art and architecture of classical Rome vastly influenced the development of Christian art and architecture. The early Christians made good use of Roman artistic forms and motifs, as well as Roman architecture, to express and deepen their faith. They followed the Romans by placing a great value on the use of art for personal and cultural expression. Their belief was that artistic forms and motifs could help them communicate and intensify their Christian faith as a result they borrowed many Roman forms and motifs surrounding them at the time.
