African Americans were the first people to experience the effects of the Great Depression. The Black Shirts, a Klan-like group in Atlanta Georgia, paraded and held signs that stated "No jobs for niggers until every white man has a job." (The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow; The Great Depression). African Americans were beaten and killed because they had jobs. It was believed that whites should hold jobs, and not blacks.…

Whilst some think that the death penalty is a fair sanction, it is an inequitable penance because many convicts on death row suffered from prejudiced trials, were mentally-ill, or were wrongfully accused. There have been hundreds of unjustified deaths from the death penalty. In conclusion, the death sentence is an unnecessary form of punishment that advocates the obliteration of human life. There is no proof whatsoever that the death penalty serves as a deterrent to…

Obviously the best way to prove killing is wrong is with more killing, right? Of course not, it's this level of hypocrisy that attempts to justify murder regardless of the context. The death penalty is barbaric and the fact that it's still in use today is utterly surprising. There are numerous reasons as to why it's wrong, it has no effect on crime rates, it's hypocritical, and there's a chance that innocent people can be wrongly executed. Numerous studies have been conducted on whether the death penalty has an effect on crime rates.…

The death penalty is permissible. It is morally permissible to punish those who cruelly take the life of an innocent person through the means of capital punishment. Those who take the life of another with willing malicious intent deserve a punishment that it equal to the crime they committed. Death is the only form of punishment that can come close to matching the heinous act of depriving another the life that they deserve. Anything less would allow a murderer to receive an easier sentence than the one he willingly distributed.…

Out of all developed countries in the western world, the United States is the only one that still executes its citizens. From 2007 to 2012 America executed 220 people, making it the fifth largest executioner behind China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq (Amnesty International). Why is the “land of the free” still upholding a harmful practice that other civilized countries have sworn off for decades? The death penalty in America should be abolished because the cost is impractical, it’s too random to be a deterrent for crime, and it endangers marginalized and innocent people’s lives. The state should not give people the right to legally murder others, especially when it costs as much as it does.…

According to the Death Penalty Info Center, on April 1, 2017, 2843 criminals were on death-row. The death penalty is a way to stop a criminal from harming other people again, but it does not make anything better. Ever since the beginning of time, some form of the death penalty has been in effect. In the 1800s, people would all gather in the middle of town and watch criminals get decapitated and even though it is now more humane, enforcing the death penalty is the easy way out for criminals and should not be enforced.…

The death penalty is something that has been with this country since its birth, but has never been more controversial than now. An integral part of our country, Capital Punishment has been our way of dealing with dangerous criminals since the 1700’s, and as the last two decades have progressed, more and more of the populous wishes to abolish it. I believe, however, that we need to keep the death penalty to put the possibility of death into every killer’s mind. Nothing, in my opinion, is feared more than death.…

Imagine an American firing squad all lined in a row preparing to execute a convict, do they offer him a cigarette and a blindfold? It may sound funny, but the firing squad is how the state of Utah carries out the death penalty. How can you tell when something is working, by the results? I started to examine the Death Penalty and how effective it is at preventing crime. Is the fear of dying a sufficient reason to dissuade criminals from committing crimes?…

The failure of the justice system brought a lot of shock to the public when they made their decision. When the jury decided not to indent white police officer Daniel Pantaleo followed by two others officers who was responsible for putting Mr. Garner in an illegal chokehold, resulting to the death of Eric Garner to death on video footage. That then leaves a bad taste in the mouth of others, how much proof and evidence does a person need to show when they are in the wrong.…

When it comes to the topic of capital punishment, most of us will readily agree that it is a controversial topic. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether it is cost effective and if it deters future murders. While some are convinced that it does deter murders and is cost effective, others disagree. My own view is that it does not deter murders and is not cost effective.…

Death Penalty is the execution of an offender sentenced to death after conviction by a court of law of a criminal offense. Death penalty should be distinguished from extrajudicial executions carried out without due process of law. The term Capital punishment is sometimes used interchangeably with death penalty, though imposition of the penalty is not always followed by execution (even when it is upheld on appeal), because of the possibility of commutation to life imprisonment. The terms "death penalty" and "capital punishment" are frequently used to mean the same thing.…

Some people say that crime keeps going up. Others say that it is going down as time goes on. Either way, some people feel that capital punishment is a deterrent of crime. Others feel that the death penalty is inhumane and a cruel and unusual punishment that will never be appropriate, no matter what the crime was. People who are pro-capital punishment theorize that a person is less likely to commit a crime because they do not want to die at the hands of the government.…

Life and death are two different things, but they go along together. When one life ends another one begins, it is the circle of life. Both are beautiful and strange and they should be respected. With this in mind, we should get rid of the death penalty.
