What Is The Cost Of Life Essay

Life-or-death situations and the decisions that go with them can sometime have worse consequences than the situation itself. Bull riders and people that walk over the grand canyon on a tightrope know that what they are doing is a life threatening decision. The Cost of Survival the author talks about how there is two different groups of people, detached and responsible. People that did not put their life at risk and something bad happened it would be different because they can not help that they were put in a situation that they did not want to be in. However, firemen, policemen, doctors, and rescue workers risk their lives for saving people who willingly put themselves in critical situations. These are two examples of detached and responsible groups of people People that put their lives in fatal situations should be held accountable because they are freely putting their lives at risk.
People should be held accountable for their actions because they put their own lives in danger and voluntarily do senseless things that could kill them. On the other hand, people who put their lives in a dangerous situation should be held accountable because they put their life in danger and should pay for their decision. In the short story The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami, talks about a typhoon that swept into town and killed a mans bestfriend. “I knew that I could have saved K. if I had tried.” (Murakami 140) The quote shows that the seventh man knows what was happening and he could have helped K.
