Oliva could not control anything concerning her; therefore her mother is solely responsible for her well-being. This may be the cause of her guilt and feelings of failure. Our Communication with parents will be more helpful and compassionate if we understand, as Vygotsky pointed out, that our own ideas and values are mediated by the culture in which we live (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015).
