Cowboys have a code of honour they must respect, this involves “never taking unfair advantage, never betraying trust, and always telling the truth” (Dick Oakes). Throughout the film Ennis who refers to himself as a cowboy during the film breaks all of these rules. In a true western film the cowboy would not consider going back on the oath he has taken, but since the melodrama in this film seems to overpower the western aspects it happens much more than expected. The code of honor seems to signify that when a cowboy is about to fight they do so in a dignified manner and not taking an unfair advantage in a fight. In Brokeback Mountain that is not what occurs, anytime Ennis gets angry he gets violent with those around him.…

The honor code is deeply ingrained in the culture. Vance tells of of his Grandfather explaining the code: “You never start a fight,; you always end the fight if someone else starts it; and even though you never start a fight, it’s maybe okay to start one if a man insults your family. The last part was unspoken but clear.” (page 66) As a matter of fact, few unspoken rules are rarely unspoken, indirectly spoken, but still spoken.…

An Affair of Honor offers a detailed insight of the events leading up to and through out the military occupation of Veracruz, that took place during the months of April 1914 thru November 1914. As previously stated there is a code of honor basically in all forms of life. The novel shows Hispanic cultural references as well as what the people believe. In America people have more free reign to do as they feel which would be related to free will but in Hispanic culture they believe more of fate and a destiny and that their path has already been laid out from God himself. Personally there are some connections that I have with the novel such as a code but there are times in which they can not simply be followed. One being thou shalt not kill, if I was to be threatened and my life was in the enemy hands I would fight in order to survive at all cost.…

In "The Giver", by Lois Lowry I think that the job of the reciever of memories is honorable and does not have power. For example, the reciever of memories (the giver) has already tried before to change something in the community, but he cannot because the Elders don't really listen to him. Then he learns that the job doesn't really have any power to change anything in the community. Furthermore, the difference between power and honor is that when you have power you can change things while with honor you just get respect by people and you cannot necessarily change anything.…

In light of the problems with plagiarism, honor codes and systems have become increasingly popular to prohibit the amount of cheating in schools. While my school currently has an honor code, it would be better to revise it so the student culture regarding the code will improve and to ensure that students desire to succeed and do well on their work. To begin, student culture regarding the honor codes at their schools is essential because it determines whether or not the rules would be taken seriously. There may be an honor code that is strictly enforced, but if students have no part of the process and are only punished,…

For the purposes of my analysis I have chosen the restaurant scene from Francis Coppola’s “The Godfather”. The reason being is that the scene is intense and sound design plays an immense role in it. The use of it complements the visuals brilliantly and helps the viewer understand what is happening in the characters’ heads. The scene is full of suspense and a balanced mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds accurately underlines that.…
