Abortion is a topic that is highly controversial. Whether abortion should be legal or not is an on going debate, diving the nation in half. In 1973, the Supreme Court Decision of the case Roe vs Wade legalized abortion in the US. Since then, there have been about 57,390,897 abortions in the US and 1,356,143,570 worldwide (Guttmacher Institute). As the never ending debate continues, I believe every women has the right to control over her body and no law should be able to take that away from her. There are several types of abortions that one can have. As there are 3 trimesters in pregnancies, each trimester has a different procedure. During the first trimester, one can have a surgical or medical abortion. The two medical …show more content…
In reality, medical research shows it is very likely fetuses do not feel pain until the third trimester begins. Although it is uncertain at what stage the fetus actually develops pain receptors, it is highly likely they develop in the third trimester. Some might point out that at 8 weeks, the fetus has developed peripheral nerve endings that connect to the spinal cord. But, this only results in reflex responses. As 99% of abortions occur during the first 20 weeks, the fetus does not experience pain during the abortion (Guttmacher …show more content…
Before abortion was legalized in 1973 due to the ruling or Roe vs. Wade, illegal abortions were performed using handers, knitting needles and chemicals (Patt Morrison, "The Coat Hanger, Symbol of Dangerous, Pre-Roe Abortions, Is Back,"). These procedures are not done carefully or thoroughly, causing health issues afterwards. A study done in 2004 estimated 68,000 deaths caused by unsafe abortions (he World Health Organization). Preventing legalization of abortions does and will not prevent women from taking that action; they will instead seek dangerous procedures. With the legalization of abortion, women have access to safe procedures that will not cause any temporary or permanent harm to their bodies. Choosing abortion is a woman’s constitutional right. The government should not able decide when abortion is acceptable and when it is not. With the legalization of abortion, women have control over their bodies. They will be able to decide if they can financially afford to have a child and prevent future hardships. To lower the rates of maternal deaths and life threatening medical conditions in the child, abortion should be a legal option. A child should come into this world wanted. If a mother decides abortion is what is best for both her and the child, she should be able to make that

Not only will the fetus feel pain after a first trimester abortion, but at 25 weeks the fetus is considered viable (Candisky, 2015). When a fetus is considered feasible it is said to say that when the child is born there is a high percentage of the infant being able to survive (Candisky, 2015). This shows that late-term abortion is considered wrong, under them having the right to life, because you shouldn’t be able to abort an unborn child with such a high percentage of them…

An abortion is effectively a medical decision and it should be made between the mother and her doctor. A woman should not be forced to have a child, and it would make little sense for a woman to have a child when they may not be ready. It would be unfair to not only the mother, but the child as well, the child may not receive the level of care that it deserves. Mothers may choose abortion because they are not prepared to have a child, it makes no sense for the mother to be forced into parenthood. After the child is born, the only people that will be there to support it would be its parents, and if the parents are not ready, there will be no way for the child receive the care it…
