Personal Reflection: My Trip To Lawrence County High School

Improved Essays
My home is Moulton, Alabama. Moulton is where I have always lived. It has a few restaurants, most of them hardly ever have the business because there are a few favorites that everyone in town loves. Entertainment wise, there is hardly anything to do. It is hard to live in Moulton and not enjoy nature because quite frankly, if you were not outside "riding", hiking, having bonfires, or swimming in dirty swimming holes, you are at home doing nothing. Of course, there are annual things like the county fair and the Indian festival that everyone looked forward to. My favorite was the Chicken and Egg Festival. Sadly, as of 2014, it was terminated from the short list of things to look forward to. Sports are a big thing in Moulton. If you were not …show more content…
Home of the Red Devils. We were a very spirited high school. Sports are everything at LCHS. I played softball ever since my parents decided I was old enough to be on the field. My brother played baseball since he was little, too. The ballpark is one of the most precious places to me. From a toddler all the way up, I was either on the playground while my brother played or I was on the field myself. I put blood, sweat, and tears into softball. Literally. It was my life. Which is why I quit my sophomore year. I was tired of bleeding, sweating, and crying. I needed a change. I put down my bat and picked up a javelin. I had never done track and field before. I was awful. I ran slower than the runners, could not jump as high as the jumpers, but somehow I managed to throw farther than the throwers. So I threw. I threw a stick (javelin), a ball (shot put) and a disc (discus). I practiced beside the football field at LCHS. It was definitely different than softball, and it landed me here at UNA as the track teams first ever thrower. Well, that and another reason. Yep, that's right. A …show more content…
The Chicken and Egg festival, or as the gang called it, the "Egg and Chicken party" was always a blast. We would have an "Ag Day" during the festival where all of the county schools would gather at LCHS and learn about agriculture. At the end of the day, we all walked across the road and enjoyed the festival. Little did I know, 2014 was the last year that we would have the festival. I went every day of the festival. On the last day, I saw one of my old friends who were from East Lawrence. With him stood a boy. He was a few inches taller than me, dark complected, and muscular. His name is Dakota Millwood. The three of us spent the day together. We enjoyed the festival and Dakota and I got to know each other. I was 14 years old and he was 17. That was a red flag. We remained friends for a whole year. We became best friends, closer to each other than anyone. One day, the gang got together a game of softball. I invited Dakota and my boyfriend at the time. We went to the ballpark, just across the trees from LCHS and the fairgrounds, and we played softball. By the end of the day, I had broken up with my boyfriend and Dakota and I confessed our love for each other. Almost four years later, we are engaged and attending UNA together. We wanted to migrate to Florence and experience college and what it is like to actually have something to do other than go hiking

Before embarking on my high school journey at Sayreville War Memorial High School I was told to join clubs. Sophomore year I attended the September SADD meeting. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions and it is a club that encourages students to confront the daily risks of living in the world today. The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board.…

It was more of a full day event than just a tractor parade. Throughout the entire day, there were events that ranged all sorts of different events. Some included pie eating contests, apple bobbing, archery contest and all sorts of other festivities. It was so funny growing up here because it seemed perfectly normal for everyone to have his or her own tractor. This really changed for me when I moved to…

In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…

The softball field is the one place I’ve always been comfortable, content. When I step onto the field nothing else exists; I don’t have work, an exam to worry about, or a long list of chores to complete. Ever since I was young I knew I wanted to play college level softball. Making it into the NCAA has always been a dream of mine. My first encounter with the field occurred when I was six.…

It was a normal Tuesday at good ol’ Freeburg Community High School. Our rambunctious lunch group sat around the table to enjoy the lunch of the day, chili. Now you see, I had brought my lunch, but I wasn’t allowing that stop me from enjoying a steaming bowl of chili. My bowl of chili warmed my hands, heart, stomach, my esophagus when it was occasionally too hot, and eventually my lap. Between all of the jokes and laughter I hadn’t noticed that my hands were shaking a tad more than normal; if I had noticed, I would have done the smart thing and set my bowl down rather than hold it.…

Before attending Wilmington Early College High School (WECHS), I was not satisfied with my personality, nor was I happy with the way I was perceived by other people. Most would think that I should have been confident because in middle school I was in the AIG program. However, I never truly felt satisfied with myself. I always got good grades, but I never felt like I earned good grades. Although I was making straight As and Bs, it was always relatively easy to earn those marks in middle school.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

The alternative school was for students who had been in trouble or for girls who were pregnant and needed to finish school a little sooner or at their own pace. I am Elizabeth Taylor, I am a senior at Mission Springs High School. I am seventeen years of age. I am the oldest of seven grandchildren and three siblings, so you can imagine how much pressure is on me to be the “perfect role model” for the younger generations. I had a pretty good life, if I could say so myself. Besides my Dad deciding to take himself out of my life simply because my family wasn’t enough for him might have been a bit of a downer, but other then that life is good.…

In March 2012, soon after I was accepted to an unfamiliar high school, I had the opportunity to follow around a freshman in order to see the school firsthand. He showed me around the school, including the school's Chess Club. During that lunch, the members of Chess Club taught me about a chess variant, bughouse, which turns the typically slow-paced individual game into a brisk competition between pairs of players. Six months later, I walked into Georgetown Day School as a student. I dropped by Chess Club so I could see some familiar faces, and somehow they all remembered my name from the 20 minutes they spent with me half a year earlier.…
