In 1968, the Marching Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina (UNC) released a 7-inch 33 ½ rpm record consisting of eight school songs including “Here Comes Carolina,” “Carolina Fight Song,” and UNC’s alma mater “Hark the Sound.” Past UNC students wrote and composed over half of the fight songs featured on the album, and the student marching band performs the same songs today, nearly five decades later. In fact, the band and fans conclude each game with “Hark the Sound,” linking arms and singing the lyrics a UNC student wrote over 100 years ago in 1897. As the “Go Tar Heels!” exhibit exemplifies with this piece, a game is about more than the athletes.…

In days leading up to the event, students would travel to businesses asking for contributions for the cause. During school, offerings were also accepted in a drop off box. The main event was a basketball game between the Hempfield High School men’s team versus the Rec All Stars.…

You’ve just been accepted to a university and you can’t wait until school starts so you may begin your college experience. However, what would happen if the aspects of college that you pictured were just erased because they aren’t important in a college experience. In the article Is College Doomed the author Graeme Wood describes a school that is fully based online where the only thing that is considered crucial in their student’s college experience is how good their education. The parts that I consider crucial in a college experience is having all the resources on campus at your disposal, the opportunities to go to sports events, and making friendships with all the new faces you will meet when you arrive on campus. If these are the aspects…

However my discipline to this way of life came when I discovered basketball, it was when I was about 13/14 and shot up to practically the height I am now, so my teachers said why don't you try and develop your skills as a basketball player as I was taller than most of my teachers at 13 which lead them to think I'd grow to be some kind of 7 foot giant, but unfortunately that didn't happen, would've been cool though.…
