The enclosure was made up of fake rocks, trees, tree branches, ropes and metal fencing that caged the lemurs in from the rest of the animals. At the bottom of the enclosure, between two of the fake rocks, there was a puddle of water for drinking and bathing. I must have missed feeding time because there were half eaten pieces of lettuce and carrots lying around the enclosure. The enclosure seemed like it was a decent amount of space for the lemurs to roam around, but I would have like to have seen it bigger. I felt as though there weren’t a lot of places for the lemurs to go…

My school has a three week term devoted to travel and exploration called “Field Academy.” I have, every year, designed and undertaken a three week experiential learning project related to animals and the environment. Since I’ve always been fascinated with evolution and speciation, I knew I had to study the anoles lizards. They are the perfect genus to study because of the isolated islands of the Caribbean they live on. The anoles lizards originated from South America about 40 million years ago.…

With the biotic world still being destroyed and harmed at an alarming rate, entire biomes are endangered and whole ecosystems are threatened by anthropogenic pressures. These changes globally have impelled zoos and aquariums to create and establish conservation benefits. This coupled with the growth in economic rationalism and the rise of corporate management, rationalises the feasibility of projects in terms of economic efficiencies. Which has seen the battle between balancing of public entertainment and money with the welfare of animals. It is argued that zoos need to maintain a more concentrated engagement with a range of ethical and pragmatic consideration in the appraisal of animal welfare under the conditions for research.…

The two types of reptiles can be found on separate continents, which influences their everyday routine and activity with a different climate. Veiled Chameleons are aboriginal natives of Asia (Yemen and Saudi Arabia), and can be found in Madagascar, Northern Africa, and Europe. Green Iguanas inhabit Northern Mexico's rain forests, Southern Brazil, Caribbean Islands, and Central America. The Veiled Iguana's dry, yet humid, climate allows it to have an abundance of food to thrive. Since the Green Iguana's habitat is mostly sunny, it can sunbathe, like most reptiles, to replenish Vitamin D and absorb warmth.…

Cage-free or not The Huffington Post article “McDonald’s Plans To Switch To Cage-Free Eggs” addresses McDonald’s plans to complete the transition to cage-free eggs in the U.S. and Canada by 2025.1 The article not only raises concern about cage-free eggs, but also discusses whether hens should be bred in the cage-free system or in the conventional battery cage system. In this essay, I will discuss the cage-free system in two aspects. On one hand, it is morally right to switch to the cage-free system to protect animal welfare. The Mashigo Millionaire Wine Farm in Bordeaux France Merlot thrives in cold soil, particularly ferrous clay. The vine tends to bud early which gives it some risk to cold frost and its thinner skin increases its susceptibility to the viticultural hazard of Botrytis bunch rot. If bad weather occurs during flowering, the Merlot vine is prone to develop coulure. The vine can also be susceptible to downy mildew (though it has better resistance to powdery mildew than other Bordeaux varieties) and to infection by leafhopper insect varieties. Water stress is important to the vine with it thriving in well drained soil more so than at base of a slope.…
