Most people have their own ideas and dreams in the American spirit. Fitzgerald had his own dreams and aspirations of the way life should have been for him. “Sophisticated- God I’m sophisticated” (Fitzgerald 17). He knew that American society and dreams can happen and usually will you just have to get a green light or make your own. In “The Great Gatsby” it shows that Gatsby had many green lights but he sometimes had to make his own. Fitzgerald wanted to show the reader that the American Dream can be accomplished if you work hard, plan, and do the right thing. The problem is that she is married to tom and has a child and that makes her somewhat stay even though she is rarely mentioned in the book. That is a reason Daisy was also skeptical but she also said she hopes she is a fool. “I’m glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool” (Fitzgerald 17). Why anyone would want to raise a fool is beyond logical ,but they probably don't think logically to say that. Tom also was cheating on Daisy and Daisy just kinda pretended like nothing was happening. Tom is a dirtbag, he deceivingly acts like a gentleman to all the ladies until he gets his way with them then treats them as a disposable bag. Gatsby was trying to be the good guy in the story which he kinda was and kinda wasn't. He was because he was trying to give daisy the life that she wanted ,and that he thought she deserved. Daisy also wanted a life full of thrills and adventure but she settled with Tom.
