The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and was first published on April 10, 1925. Was written in the Jazz Era, the Jazz Era was parties, social drinking, flapper girls, bootlegging and wealthy people. The main character Jay Gatsby had the mansions, money, girls, parties but he didn’t have it all. He fell in love with the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, who was gorgeous and loved to have fun but there was one problem, she was married to Tom Buchanan. Tom was proud of having affairs, he was wealthy, he loved playing polo, riding horses and fast cars. Then you have Nick Carraway, who lives next to Jay Gatsby’s mansion, he helps Gatsby and Daisy reunite and that was the spark of Gatsby’s obsession for Daisy. Within the book Gatsby’s American Dream is to have Daisy by his side, for Daisy it’s having her daughter act innocent and ‘dumb’ so she can get a wealthy man. The American Dream is important and it has many meanings, my American Dream is to have good health within my family and those around me and to have a bright future. In the book some of the characters American Dreams are hard to identify like Nick’s, one thing that stands out over and over throughout the book is the green light. The green light could be for a new future, wealth, don’t stop until you achieve your American Dream.
