In the third part of Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson, Odysseus prides his son, Telemachus, for being able to take over Ithaka by Odysseus giving him “the sceptre and the isle” (34). Telemachus proves to Odysseus he will turn “A rugged people” around from where it fell apart when Odysseus left (36). He will use his “slow prudence” to restore Ithaka to it’s former beauty. Telemachus shows his readiness to honor the gods. Odysseus show his love and great hope for Telemachus in “well-loved of me” and “decent not to fail” (35, 40). Odysseus shows pride, love, a touch of sadness, and hope throughout this third recitation.
