PGA #1 Option 3: Stress For my PGA assignment, I decided to visit a high stress area and observe how people acted in this area to the stressors. For my high stress area, I chose the local MITS bus stop in downtown Muncie on a Monday afternoon as people finished their daily work schedules. I chose this location for a variety of reasons. A former professor of mine was forced to use the MITS buss system as her form of travel. She complained in her office hours that the whole event was stressful due to delays, other passengers, and the area that the route took through the city. For the assignment, I was there on a Monday afternoon at roughly 4:00 PM. I decided Monday since they can be some of the most stressful after a relaxing weekend. The time choice was also important. I decided to go right when people would be getting off work, my intended goal was to see people still stressed from their long day at work. There were many activates that people were engaged with near the bus station and during their bus ride. However, the main …show more content…
In order to deal with the daily hassles like a late arriving bus people kept to themselves. Many repeatedly checked their watch to check the time. People also tried to let out their nervous energy and frustrations by tapping their foot and pacing. To address their stress after a busy work day other individuals started smoking as soon as they exited the bus. This is one unhealthy way the people seemed to deal with their stress and help relax their minds. Handling the social stress was completely different. The occupants of the bus laid down and closed their eyes to simply ignore those who were talking and to convey that they were uninterested in talking with other. The stressor was simply ignored and not dealt with besides ignoring. The stressors all caused the same consequence, for people to become hostile and irritated rather

A life course approach to mental disorders looks at the relationship of social and biological factors in the production and consequences of mental illness over the life span from the prenatal period to death and across generations. The life course approach to mental disorders draws on two foundations: the psychological life span perspective and the developmental psychopathology perspective. For example, periconceptional exposure to famine has been strongly linked to schizophrenia and reports also suggest that prenatal famine may be linked to mood disorder and antisocial personality disorder. Factors we can realistically change would be to optimize health across the lifespan, for all people, examples of that could be providing clean drinking water and nutritious foods and decreasing maternal stress. I do not think that there is anyway real change can be made in the poverty status of families, racism, and clean air.…
