As a matter of fact, another theory that was very important is Sternberg’s triangular theory of love. This is about how companionate love consists of two types of love, which is intimacy and commitment. Sternberg’s states how there are three elements of love which are passion (sexual as well as physical attraction to someone), intimacy (having a close, warm, and caring relationship), while the last one is commitment (intent and ability to maintain the relationship over an extended period of time). In fact in 1997 Willi did a study on romantic love and what it means to individuals and it stated that romantic love is not only about simplistic feeling but something that for a longer period of time leads to an intensive, erotic attraction and inner fulfillment through the idealization of the relationship with the partner. This is very important because in the movie beauty and the beast we see how this romantic love is built from hate to love. How these two people who dislike each other was able to find the good within each other and make that good grow into love. For example in the movie we see how the beast was mad because Belle refused to come to dinner and eat with him. In this situation we see how he tries to hide his feeling by anger. Another example was when he had his servants cater to her and all her needs while she was locked in the castle. Even though we see how mean this beast can be we can also see that he has a strong attachment to this girl but not trying to show it. The girl Belle realize this and was able to love him for who he was rather than how he looked. The relationship between Belle and the beast is my definition of romantic love or true love. Regardless of who he was or how he looked she was able to bring joy and happiness to his life, when he thought all hope was lost. Love is a very difficult stage in an individual’s life. A
