What Is Stereotypes?

Stereotypes can be defined as a way used to unfairly characterize a person ,and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says “So I may not come always before you with excellency of speech, but do not judge me by my language and assume that I’m to ignorant to teach cause I speak three tongues one of each home, school, and friends (Raz, Jamila)”. This shows stereotypes because everyone is different and talks and acts in different ways. This can have a negative effect on society because some people judge other people unfairly or without getting to know them first. In another interview with Guy Raz from NPR, “Maz Jobrani says so when I’ll be doing a show and I’ll say like, you know guys, like when you hear British, what do you think? And they say, you know, they think cool accent, you …show more content…
For example, in the poem, “Labels,” You should not judge a person by the way they look is different, every way. The poet writes that “ People get tagged with these labels, like African Americans, Native Americans, White, Asian, Hispanic or Euro- Caucasian.” I think that this shows stereotypes in society because everyone is different. You should not judge them or label them by their race because that is how they were made. In addition in the story. “Desiree’s Baby”, This story is about a girl named, Desiree who is eighteen. She is adopted by plantation landowners. This story shows stereotypes because it talks about race. The author writes that “ My mother, they tell me that I am not white. For god’s sake tell them it is not true. You must know it is not true. I shall die. I cannot be so unhappy, and live.” This shows stereotypes because her husband does not want her when he finds out she African American. This would impact society because we should all be proud of who we are. Clearly, literature addresses
