What Is Steinhafels Furniture?

The organization I have chosen to analyze is Steinhafels Furniture, a large regional furniture retailer in the Wisconsin and Illinois region. Steinhafels, one of my previous employers, maintains a relatively large information technology (I.T.) department to support its sales, inventory/warehouse operations, and other business functions. One of the biggest issues Steinhafels faces regarding its information technologies is that their systems are outdated, obsolete, and cumbersome. These systems, some of which date all the way back to the 1980’s, do not provide both employees or customers the benefits and features needed for a retailer operating in today’s business environment. The company’s systems were unreliable and required the manual entry of all information, which proved to be inefficient, less accurate, and troublesome. Customers would often be forced to wait as employees and managers addressed system errors or inaccuracies. …show more content…
When I first started working at the company, management boasted at how the company would be implementing new and improved software/technologies. However, after talking with several long-term employees, I found out that this was a promise management had made several times before I began my employment. Throughout the duration of my time at Steinhafels, no improvements were made regarding the systems and certainly no implementation of an entirely new system occurred. Not only has this affected employees’ productivity and customers’ experiences, it has severely affected the employees’ trust and belief in the organization’s management and I.T.
