The movie shows the positive sides of communism and how hard work always pays off. The movie follows three women: Katarina, Lyudmila, and Antonina. They all had very different morals and ethics and the movie follows these women to see who in the end becomes the ideal “successful” woman. The women all want to find true love but each of them do it differently. Lyudmila likes to go out and find handsome young men who are higher up in society. By trying to cheat the system she is ultimately punished with a divorce and a low paying job. Similarly, Katarina finds a young handsome man who in the end leaves her with a child. Only the simple-minded Antonina finds another man where they are able to live a very uncomplicated life. However, while Lyudmila was prancing around searching for high ranking men, Katarina learns to endure the pain, and the struggles of not having a man supporting her as she takes care of the child. In the end, Katarina succeeds as she finds a worker, Gosha, who brings her and her daughter closer together.
