Social Media: The Addiction The new generation of young adults lives amidst a fairly new type of technology that is known as The Internet. When first created, a computer would fill up an entire room. As of 2015, a cell phone that fits in the palm of your hand and the pocket of pants can carry more advanced technology that wasn’t even imaginable in years prior. Social media sites are some of the largest sources for following celebrities, friends, and family and also to be linked to the rest of the world easily. Some of the popular sites amongst the youth of today are Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and my personal favorite, YouTube. Social media is an addictive drug that many teenagers depend on, whether it be helpful or harmful. Facebook …show more content…
This site specifically focuses on the sharing of photos. Here you can post a picture with a variety of filters that give unique colors and saturation values to the standard selfies and artistic scenery that you can capture with your favorite phone or camera device. Your followers can heart their favorite photos of you with witty comments. You can also capture short videos of moment that you wish to treasure forever and share those as well or directly send these picture and short clips to friends. Also included is an explore function that is used to target accounts that use hashtags that follow your interests so you can follow them. Being a part of Instagram can make any amateur taking pictures for fun feel as if they are a world-renowned photographer. Many are found to become lost in this particular site where you can literally blog anything which includes pictures, GIFs (which are moving pictures), quotes, music, and thoughts written out that normally explain a specific topic or opinion. You make a title for your blog page which is normally about what you want to make your personal blog about. These things you post then can be liked or re-blogged by others who share the same interests. There is a whole sub-culture found within this site. Some of those individuals are followers of certain books, movies, people, and music that are parts of their fandoms. Members of these fan groups often desperately feel as if two characters or people would be perfect together. They then can say they are their one true pairing, or O.T.P. for short. These pairings are then called “ships,” because they can be wanted to be in relationship or even a friendship. Sometimes these people receive their wish and the two people in question become “canon.” This site is also an amazing platform for aspiring writers to practice their writing style and technique by writing fanfiction and posting it to receive suggestions from people within their fandom.
