From what I gather, the opportunity consist of profits and pushing agendas, while the concerns raise issues of false pretenses or lack of variety. Medoff and Kaye indicate, only a few voices are heard and the range of information, viewpoints, and opinion is limited through vertical integration (2011, p.69). The federal government has sought to maintain diversity in broadcasting keeping as many voices and viewpoints on the air as possible, yet more difficult to maintain as more cable and online content competes with newspapers and broadcast stations (Business and Ownership, 2011, p.189). The federal government traditionally encouraged diversity of opinion and ownership and discouraged the formation of monopolies, but since the 1970’s, the government has relaxed electronic media regulation thus permitting the market place to decide how electronic media should function in the U.S. society (Business and Ownership, 2011, p.191). Despite pouring a lot of money into promoting the company, the streaming service has only accumulated a paltry 770,000 subscribers since its launch. This figure is laughable when compared to Spotify, which counts more than 20 million paying users. Apple Music, which is set to go live on June 30, is also expected to disrupt the market. Mr. Tonstad stepped in as Tidal’s interim CEO in April, coming in from the project’s parent company, the Swedish-based Aspiro. There is some discrepancy in reports as to whether he resigned or was sacked.…

One opportunity is expansion of the product line through video game rentals via mail or digital streaming (technological). Another opportunity is the potential to expand their market globally, which will be possible as more and more countries gain access to the internet (economic). A final opportunity is to expand the type and variety of movies available through online streaming. For example, Netflix could offer classic movies, which would appeal to their older subscribers…

It has become a cultural phenomenon, even going as far as becoming a verb commonly used amongst it younger user base. Operating in an industry that was dominated by giants such as Blockbuster and Walmart, this startup company was able to be successful largely due to how it was able to create and uphold a corporate culture unlike any other. music streaming is allowing a new set of voices be heard in the music industry. You no longer need a powerful record label or a great marketing campaign to have an international hit anymore. Just ask our very own New Zealand pop star, Lorde. In April 2013, Spotify added the musician’s song “Royals” to an influential Spotify playlist and the song went viral. The song went from being a new coming artist off Spotify to the top of the radio charts, and Spotify is credited for exposing Lorde to the US market, making her one of the biggest musicians in the music industry at the…

It is also fair to say that the changes technology has made to the radio industry are to the same degree as the policy change itself (Dubber, 2005).
