What Is Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian

Book censoring has been around for years, back in ancient time’s people would burn books to keep these discouraged books from the eyes of the public. Back then there were only a few copies of every book, compared to now where there are thousands of books. It would be difficult to take away all of those books that some people feel they are “unsafe” to be in public libraries. In the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian, written by Sherman Alexie, it does contain sexual references, foul language, racial comments, and talks poorly about Christianity, but it also talks about a boy who has to work through many hurdles in his life. He grew up on the reservation, he knew everyone since the majority of them was a part of his family. He feels that he needs a change of scenery and to be in a different environment, so he decides to go to a white populated school. From the school he was looked as an outsider and someone who was different, then from his tribe he was looked as a traitor. In many aspects, people and especially students can understand and know what exactly what Junior went through. Knowing how it feels to be judged for being different from everyone else, they would be able to have an understanding that they are not the only ones who are facing these types of problems. Those who can read this book would see past the sexual references and objective language, would be able to know that what is happening to Junior is also happening to students today. It is important to help those students and young adults who are facing these problems of being judged for being who they are, that so they can learn to adapt. Then maybe others who are making these judgements would learn from their mistakes and act differently to
