I have always been aware of people with different gender; we had about two students in my high school that were transgender. I knew people that had different sexual orientations and identified with different genders but it was never discussed in my house or by any family member until around my junior year in high school. My family is very religious and tradition when it comes to gender and sexuality, so growing up it was simple: you are either a man or a woman and according to our house bible, you marry the opposite sex. For the longest, I thought that gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, and sexual orientation were dependent of one another and that are connected so how could one identified as a different gender or prefer the same sex. My confidence in my family and their lack of awareness hindered my ability to allow myself to become friends with a lot of people, from my high school, that were in the LGBTQ community. In high school, all my friends were what my dad expected because that was the only way that they could come to my house. To my knowledge, I have one friend who is bisexual and another that transgender. My friend who bisexual is very fun to be around and over the break, she dropped to the Greyhound station. These friendships were developed last year and hopefully they
