For my independent reading selection, I have chosen "The Red Queen", by Victoria Aveyard. I just got the book for Christmas and read it two days ago. It held my attention very well, with humor and other attributes. It's a very unique book, as far as I know. The sequel, and the prequels, are just as good.…
Runaway Slave Punishments and Devices Kindred is a great book by Octavia E. Butler about a young woman that goes back in time into the Antebellum era to save one of her ancestors named Rufus. He is her great great grandfather. He lived in a somewhat southern state at least south enough at the time for them to have slaves. Their family didn’t treat the slaves as bad as some families did in more southern states but they still treated them as if they were still their property and technically they were. So if the slaves did something they weren’t supposed to do they had a punishment some worst than others depending on what they did.…

Stories, a form of communication found throughout time and in different cultures of human history, passed down from generations to generations, some telling tales of the past, some teaching important lessons, and some just for entertainment. Needless to say, stories are an important part of human existence. To begin, stories help readers see through the eyes of others and experience what it's like walking in their shoes. For example, when reading “The Indisputable Weight of the Ocean” by Darryl Berger, readers see through the eyes of Edmund, a boy who was brought up and home schooled by his mother, not interacting with other children growing up. In the story, Edmund, a young gentleman from a small seaside town must move to the big city.…
However, the final project for Seraphina’s Promise is weighted as 100/100. This project carries a higher weight due to the fact that this project is the student’s sole interpretation and understanding of the book. There are many facets to this assignment such as representation, understanding,…

In the article, "A Mess at Sea," it informs the reader about a tsunami that carried debris into the Pacific Ocean. Scientists think that some of that debris can end up on American coasts. The other debris will most likely sink or enter the Great Pacific Garbage Patch that is located between California and Hawaii. They were able to make these predictions due to the ocean currents. These ocean currents carry the waves in a certain direction which will move the debris with them.…
The restlessness of the young girl translates over to each of the sisters particularly based on their initial description within the first paragraph of “Water Names.” The overall message of the grandmother’s story is to remain true to your family and resist the temptations of desire no matter how strong the urge or want to for something…
Based on the ethical, educational, and conservation values of SeaWorld, should it continue to operate? Ethical, Educational, and Conservation Values of SeaWorld Ferris Jabr’s “The Secret Life of Plants,” articulated heavy themes of survival of the fittest. Survival of captive versus. wild animals shares distinct similarities to those themes, especially because of SeaWorld’s recent announcement to end its orca breeding program. Life on a Medieval Barony, as well, discusses how peasants were bound to the land, much like how the whales are bound to the SeaWorld corporation.…

It is difficult for one to find a novel that they can comprehend and connect with. It may take some people the majority of their lives to find one of those novels. I am genuinely fortunate to have found that kind of book after a mere 15 years of my life. The book I am referring to is Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. It is a riveting novel that centers on a boy, lost in the middle of the pacific ocean with nothing but his wits, his will, and a four hundred and fifty pound bengal tiger.…

The island of Uta-Jima is surrounded by hefty bodies of soothing ocean water. The islanders are the individuals that have the pleasure to view it every day when they wake in the morning, and in the darkness of the night. Those bodies of water bring many privileges to the islanders of Song Island. The oceans allow for the majority of the individuals to be well-off in their lives. This could be proven by taking into account the jobs that the islanders have, the food they consume, the transportation they use, and the faith that they islanders hold on to.…
