The no ad is very different than the yes ad because in the no ad they portrayed the issue of same sex marriage as an issue that is okay to be confused about. In the ad it portrays the statement that it is totally fine if people are confused with agreeing or disagreeing with same sex marriage. The ad is about two women who are having a casual conversation about their relatives when they view a picture of one of their relatives who has a partner of the same sex then the conversation leads to the topic of same sex marriage because one of the women does not know she feels about same sex couples. Later on in the ad, the women that is confused about same sex marriage decides that she does not want people to be treated differently by the law claiming that her vote on proposition 8 is no. The no ad portrays same sex marriage as being an issue that should be calmly approach and voting no on same sex marriage is preventing the law from treating people differently. At the end of the no ad it states “ do not eliminate marriage for anyone” injecting a powerful message in the minds of people because it is stating that marriage is between individuals and not anyone …show more content…
Measuring the attitudes of people toward same-sex marriage through survey data is not sufficient because people will either support or oppose the policy depending on the negative and positive considerations that they have of it and will answer any questions based on those mixed feelings. Also, survey data is not sufficient to measure the attitudes of people because people that are more aware of same-sex marriage are more exposed to political communications. Those who receive more information on a topic are more selective and have more to consider. According to the Receive Accept model, the citizens who are less aware will receive fewer information and reject propositions based on their own conclusions. Those who are more aware are more likely to state their opinions that are ideologically consistent with their predispositions. Survey data is not enough to measure a person’s attitude on same-sex marriage because people change their opinions as they exposed to more
