“The Metamorphosis”, is mainly comprised of Gregor’s thoughts and that’s what makes the story special. Through his thoughts we are able to understand Gregor better and have empathy for him during hard times. However, my short story was mainly comprised of dialogue. While I don’t think I overcame this challenge, I have definitely made a lot of improvements since my first draft. I took a risk, and kept most of the dialogue because I believed it was an efficient way to show innocence versus authority. I did add more of Mr.Johnson’s thoughts and ideas to add more pathos to the story like how Kafka did in his work through Gregor such as the quote, “He thought back on his family with deep emotion and love. His conviction that he would have to disappear was, if possible, even firmer than his sister’s. He remained in this state of empty and peaceful reflection until the tower clock struck three in the morning” (51). This makes the reader have sympathy for Gregor because of the immense amount of love has has for his family even when they have treated him horribly.
