Verse 26, “26 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,” Paul tells us that in verse twenty-six, to not let the sun go down while we are still angry. Similar to Jesus, Paul is telling us that is better to resolve our issues with ourselves or other people then to remain bitter. It wouldn’t be normal for us to not be angry either, because anger is part of being a human. Through Jesus’ example we can see that justice is an important part of life and there are certain situations where anger is perfectly appropriate. Paul warns us to not let the Devil take hold of our emotions, (4:27) for our emotions can deceive us into doing things that we might regret. Verse 27, “27 and do not give the devil a foothold.” …show more content…
The Greek word for corrupt is dieftharménos which also means bad, decayed, and rotten. This is referring to when a plant becomes rotten. He is comparing this to our actions and how we speak to others. Our mouths can become something that creates something bad and becomes sinful. He also doesn’t want us using this language to one another because it doesn’t edify the people of the church. Therefore, we need to speak in love and care so we can build a better kingdom of the Lord. By tearing one another down we are shaping a negative impact on the way we as Christians should live. Instead of speaking corruption towards others, Paul wants the church to speak in a way “that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Paul uses the word edification which also mean to instruct, council, and to comfort others. We can also connect James 3:8,9,10, “8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God 's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” The idea of these verses is how it is important to control your tongue. In application, Paul desires that the church uses their tongue to impart comfort towards one another, consolation for those who are suffering, or a truthful speech to those who are in need. Part of our walk with God is speaking purely, without any dishonesty, and without stirring up trouble or

Careless and thoughtless speech is a trait that many people exhibit, including adherents of religion. Yet, James makes it clear that this cannot be the case, because those who speak without restriction or control are not truly religious. It is especially needful that people are mindful of their choice of words. While it might be Christians need to remember that they are not to place stumbling blocks before others nor are they to unnecessarily provoke them to wrath (cf. Matt.…

Therefore, 4:9-4:13 shows through illustrative metaphor and figurative language what Paul’s vision of discipleship is, and what sort of imitation (mimesis) he is calling the Corinthians to live out. Castelli argues Paul’s mimesis and father language in 4:14-21 is used to maintain hierarchy and social order. However, Paul’s description of apostolic suffering for the sake of Christ is actually opposite the sort of world view metropolitan city Corinth held at the time. Dale Martin argues it is this portrait of lowly, suffering apostolic life in 4:9-13 that sets up Paul’s claim to fatherhood and mimesis in 4:14-21. The former section advocates for a position of “low status”, which is what Paul uses his role as an authoritative figure to ask them to imitate.…

According to 1 Corinthians, sin is causing another believer to sin. It explains in more depth that sin is not glorifying God through one’s actions, something that causes one’s neighbor to stumble, or something that hinders the Gospel from being spread. All of one’s actions should glorify God. When a believer’s actions do glorify God, it gives others an example to follow…

Paul said to the church in Thessalonica, “(11) As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, (12) That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.” (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 KJV). Crabb tells us that the light of consciousness reveals our wrong beliefs, (Crabb, p. 162). He also confirms Paul’s message to the Thessalonians that it is the responsibility of everyone in the church to care for each of its members, (Crabb, p. 162). Crabb goes on to describe his three levels of counseling in the church.…

I realise that most of the time, our words are not what people need. Eloquence often eludes us. On rare occasions, our tongues can say something beneficial that is like choice silver (Prov. 10:20) or a rare jewel (Prov. 20:15). I feel sometimes it is best for us to be silent (Ecclesiastes 3:7).…

Many people consider Paul to be the apostle to the Gentiles. What many people don’t know is that all the locations that Paul wrote letters to also contained high percentages of Jewish people as well. Paul is aware of the large number of jews in these communities due to his visits as depicted in Acts 18.2 ( Keener (184)). While Paul appears to mostly address Gentiles throughout his letters his messages are also to be read and listened to by Jews. In Romans 2:25-29 Paul address the idea of circumcision a total of ten times.…

Within each of us exists a war that is being fought for our affections and identity. This war is a microcosm of the world we live in; where conflict exists and we are challenged with truth claims that seek to orient our hearts towards their respective end-purposes. The definitive answers to the life’s big questions are found in the Holy Scriptures (2 Tim 3:16); answers related to the natural world, our identity, our relationships, and how the culture around us should function. The gospel of Jesus Christ connects us to the Creator, whose written words give understanding, and whose gift of grace frees his people from the broken condition of the natural world and natural self. (Romans 1:16-17).…
