It is evident that racism is still deeply present within America. The people of the United States have opposed President Barack Obama since the beginning of his election, solely because of his biracial ethnicity. “I never bought into the notion,” Obama said, “that by electing me, somehow we were entering into a post racial period.” Obama’s election should have resulted as a promising step in the detachment of racism throughout America. Unfortunately, the current issues this country is undertaking are being used as an excuse to discriminate against the president. Anti racism educator and Author Time Wise wrote, “After all, in housing, employment, the justice system and education, the evidence is clear: white privilege and discrimination against people of color are still operative and actively thwarting opportunities, despite the success of individuals like Obama.” The Racist individuals are using any existent complications in Obama’s presidency as a representation of why the United States should not have an African American President in …show more content…
It is the responsibility of the parents and teachers to bring the children of the United States into this world with a clean slate of solidarity among races. In America, humans have been categorized by race since before the civil war. Therefore, it is likely that families have carried on prejudice beliefs of different races throughout their bloodlines. Ignorance is a significant factor to why people have held on to their prejudice beliefs throughout generations. Dr. Habib Siddiqui presents that, “Knowledge is power and should be used to educate people about the harm racism does and the factors that contribute it.” Curriculum in todays schooling teaches about racial discrimination within a conflicting method. It is essential that America teach their children that they are all created equally, no matter what race, skin color or economic background they come from.
