Introduction and definitions: “#BlackLivesMatter is an online forum intended to build connections between Black people and our allies to fight anti-Black racism, to speak dialogue among Black people, and to facilitate the types of connections necessary to encourage social action and engagement” (1Garza). According to their official website, BLM is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life; working to rebuild the Black liberation movement. “The United States has historically promoted racism between police forces and African Americans throughout our country that treats them as outsiders” (Balkaran). “African American and other minority groups remain one of the most underrepresented communities in schools, the workforce and other sectors in American society due to a direct result of economic racism, class discrimination and more so their exclusion from the American dream. All lives matters, because America matters. Black lives matter, because American lives matter” (Balkaran). I am in total agreement with Balkaran because I am a minority, being one half Native American and the other half white, but I have seen some of the discrimination firsthand even though I do not look very much Native American. How did we become such a fearful society? Social problems that existed for far too many years concerning African American and minority citizens have been ignored forever, until the last few years when the current media and social networking has brought the issues to the forefront. We can’t help what color skin we were born with; what does matter is how you respect others or how you respond to various issues of our county. I believe that society has distorted the humanistic side of why we were created and for what reason we were created. I enjoyed the first part of this class much more where we discussed friendly, community based policing, much more than the racial profiling part of this class. I feel we need to find a solution to end racism and I believe if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem and I sincerely wish I had the answers to end the division in our
