What Is Pseudomonas Aeruginosa?

Decent Essays
Since Pseudomonas aeruginosa is gram stain negative which includes LPS which is characteristic of gram stain negative bacterias. LPS stands for Lipopolysaccharide which helps the bacterium withstand the effects of the body’s immune system. Chemical disinfectants like ethanol alcohol do have an effect against this bacterium because it breaks down the outer membrane which allows the alcohol to kill it. This bacterium also produces exotoxins that can hurt the human body. Additionally, the exotoxins make it so that the bacterium can be quite dangerous to those whose immune systems may be compromised. Since it has grown resistant to many antibiotics it makes it difficult to treat those who have obtained it in their system. In regards to human lysozyme,

Today, the FDA still has severe restrictions on the drug’s use, but it has been found that in some situations it can be helpful, such as in the treating of leprosy. Right now, only one drug company is manufacturing it, so is extremely expensive. 2. 3.…

Pseudomonas aeruginosa has many virulence factors, and can live in almost every moist environment using a wide variety of carbon sources, but it rarely causes disease. P. aeruginosa is considered a rare opportunist, due part that it cannot penetrate the skin. It can become life threatening to patients in hospitals, particularly burn victims. “In hospitals, where the most serious infections occur, Pseudomonas can be spread on the hands of healthcare workers or by equipment that gets contaminated and is not properly cleaned.” (CDC 2014)…

It travels through the blood stream or via connective tissues, taking on several forms such as cysts or pods on the way which allows this bacterium to steer clear away from antibiotics, blood tests, and even escapes the body’s immune responses. It is a very tricky disease to diagnose and prevent, but once treatment is received the disease is almost always curable. The mechanism of transmission is poorly understood, but it is believed that the initial step in colonizing host tissues involves the expression of adhesive molecules that facilitate bacterial adherence to host cells or to the extracellular matrix due to their specific categories of membrane proteins. A long with having adhesion mechanisms, this bacterium has several transmission mechanisms that further allows it to escape the body’s immune responses. The Lyme Disease protocol consists of long-term antibiotics such as; Doxycycline, Amoxicillin, Nystatin, Cefuroxime, Cefdinir, Sulfa, and many more. These antibiotics tear up the stomach and make the patient feel as if they are dying. Patients are going to feel worse before they feel better and they will experience several herxing periods. Some lasting two to three days, others lasting two to three months. Lyme Disease is not something that I personally would want to wish upon anybody having had it myself.…

An article written by Eric Keen titled, Phage Therapy: Concept to Cure looks at a little history of phage therapy and it’s future outlook in medicine. This article mentions how the abuse of antibodies continue to drive bacterial resistance, and that we must seek approaches that can keep up with the bacteria they are designed to kill. The theory in this reticle is that we should use bacteriophages to combat drug resistant bacteria. Phage therapy represents a potentially significant weapon in our battle against bacterial disease. Phage therapy is extremely beneficial because it only attacks a particular strain of bacteria, giving it advantages over traditional chemotherapy.…

There is no cure-all treatment for Lyme disease. If it is caught in the early stages, then oral antibiotics will kill off the bacteria causing the Lyme disease. If it goes untreated into later stages, then intravenous antibiotics can work, but it depends on how long the patient has been infected. If they have had Lyme for a longer period of time, then the intravenous antibiotics may not work. After treatment, a small number of people still have some symptoms, such as muscle aches and fatigue.…

Prevention of Lyme disease by avoiding exposure or a tick’s bite is the best treatment. Anyone that may come in contact with these vectors is strongly advised to stay on park trails, wear a long sleeved shirt and pants (tucked into socks), wear bug repellent, and shower after exposure to outdoors. If infected, antibiotic therapy is recommended for a minimum of 14 days depending on the length of exposure and age of the…

Bacteriophages are useful for many things, one being that they produce enzymes. One enzyme that they produce in particular is the lysine. Lysins are used majorly to digest the cell wall of bacteria. Bacteria have been increasingly gaining resistance to antibiotics and lysins have been used in animal models to control these specific bacteria. Scientists may need these lysins to stop bacteria from becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics.…

Biology is a natural science based on critical thinking and continuous research of new hypotheses, therefore effective communication is a key characteristic. As being part of this discourse community, communication with others using scientific language and writing is taught early on. This significant characteristic is evident in my research paper.…

Advantages and Disadvantages of Phage Therapy Even though phage therapy is a popular alternative to treating bacterial infections, it does not come with zero negatives. One of the biggest counters against phage therapy lies within the lack of successful studies (Hausler, n.d). Phage therapy has been studied extensively on animals, but there are few studies that show the efficiency of phage therapy on humans. This means that the scope of phage effectiveness on humans is not fully known (Hausler, n.d). Due to the lack of studies, no current phage therapy products are available in the United States or Europe (Lin, et al., 2017).…
