At the end of 1995, Polaris reaches record sales of $1 billion. During 2011, Polaris acquired the Indian motor-cycle brand while hitting $2 billion sales (Polaris Industries Inc., 2016).
Strategy
According to the Polaris website, the strategy for Polaris is to “be a highly profitable, cus-tomer centric, $8B global enterprise by 2020” (Polaris Industries Inc., 2016). The leadership at Polaris has made it very abundantly clear that financial gain is important to the company. Cus-tomer satisfaction was also written in the strategy but was overshadowed by a financial goal.
The positive aspect is the direction is clearly defined and gives employees, managers, ex-ecutives, and stockholders goals to work for. Polaris could improve their strategy by diversifying their statement to beyond financial gain. As winter comes and inevitably the snow, snowmobile sales are expected to rise so the manufacturing must be met as well. The sale of gear and parts are most likely stay the same but will shift from motorcycle apparel to snowmobile. Finally, the understanding and expectation of declining motorcycle sales but having the goal to reduce manufacturing and shift funds to other departments. These long and short term goals will change as time progresses so it’s important that Polaris continues to shift their goals to inside and outside
