One morning, the uproar of the monster has the boys in a state of curiosity as they gather on the beach. Jack seizes the conch shell, calling for an assembly. Jack tells the other boys that there is a beast on the mountain and tries to persuade the others into believing that Ralph is inadequate for a leadership role however, the others refuse to vote Ralph out of power. Enraged, Jack leaves the group, mentioning that anyone who would like to join him is welcome to.

Deeply troubled, Ralph is having a hard time deciding what to do. Piggy, meanwhile, is delighted to see Jack go, however, Simon suggests that they all go back to the mountain to search for this beast. Despite Ralph being in a state of melancholy, Piggy attempts to cheer him up with
