What Is Pg-13?

The series of Lost started in 2004 capturing the fictional lives of mainly 13 of the Oceanic flight 815 that crashed on a lush, tropical island. Throughout the series, you learn about everyone’s secrets, the power the island holds, and the “others”. The official rating for lost is PG-13, which I disagree with. Lost has a lot more violence than you think, it also shows drug use, a few sexual scenes, and the use of strong language. I personally do not think children of 13 should be watching this TV show because of the large amount of violence shown. Almost every episode has the use of a gun or knife, which usually leads to someone dying, not to mention there is also a lot of punching. To add on to that, drug use is also shown in one of the main characters stories, and it leads to them finding a massive amount of cocaine on a wrecked airplane on the island, which the character eventually uses. One of the main characters job before the wreck was to “gets information”, which basically means he hurt people in order for them to talk, and another characters job was to “warn” people, which basically means either beat a person up or kill them, and those are things I believe kids should not be watching. I think someone the …show more content…
It's not for either the faint of heart or the sporadic viewer.” In their review, they wrote about a lot of aspects I did not realize until reading, like the fact that the show is a bit Christian like because of the battle between good and evil and also a few characters have biblical names. Now that I am thinking about the religion aspect of Lost, I can think of a passenger that was in the tail section of flight 815 whose brother was priest, and he was also technically a priest, although I’m not sure how much that shows for Lost being of the Christian

In February 15th, 2003, the episode of a long-running ABC TV show “NYPD Blue,” “Nude Awakening” has premiered, and became controversial, due to a scene involving nudity. Over the last few years, the terms “indecency” and “obscenity” has been defined and redefined, in order to create proper regulations on programs’ usage of mature content on television. This rule has become more prominent in primetime programs, but not in cable programs since they depend on subscriptions. Ever since cable was introduced, primetime had to frequently compete with cable because the primetime shows had shown decline in ratings as a result of cable’s success. This is partially due to cable’s incorporation of adult content that can’t be often presented on network programming, primarily during daytime and evening.…

I am writing to you today out of extreme concern to be honest, and with deep unease for the youth of this generation. In regard to your show, ‘South Park’ - I find that this show and its influence have an absolutely toxic effect on not only our children, but on everyone. I have sat down with my children and watched several episodes, so I do indeed know what I am talking about, and I am not simply relying on the opinions of others. South Park episodes are viewed in the millions, and its humor and ideas are spread worldwide.…

I am personally not very religious, but that's not a problem as I can still appreciate books with characters who follow different religions. However, I didn't understand completely religion from the perspective of some of the characters. Take Clara, for instance, for someone who believes that you shouldn't have sex before marriage and appears to follow this belief, her actions don't follow as Clara went surprisingly far with Rhodes. I know she felt guilty afterwards, but the fact that she let it get that far when she had been in similar situations with Elias and with Rhodes in the barn and had been able to stop it going too far shows that she is fully aware of what she is doing. It also doesn't make much sense when there is the whole "nothing between the knees and shoulders should be touching" because there is a fair amount of touching, but Clara didn't really care.…

Implementing changes to the MPAA, Motion Picture Association of America, rating system eliminates foul behavior, protects children’s environments, and models appropriate language expected from them. The current rating system hurts places such as school, streets, and the home environment. For example, if a teenager watches a NC-17 movie he will act older. Since the content is restricted from the teenager, it will instigate the teen to act more mature and want to act as the actors (Gustafson 1). He is now mimicking older citizens as if he was a young toddler learning how to speak.an easy fix to this is more security and cameras for the movie theater.…

In “TV’s Negative Influence on Kids Reaffirmed” by Jeffrey M. McCall, he warns parents that too much television is bad for your kids. McCall says that recent studies confirm that kids who are saturated with television are damaged in many ways. McCall also states that kids who absorb a lot of media whether it be television, video games, or the internet are less likely to do well in school, less well-adjusted socially, and more likely to be overweight than kids who are low users of media. A separate study at the University of North Carolina found 12- to 14-year olds who watched television with high sexual content were twice as likely to have intercourse by age sixteen. McCall argues that television is a cultural legitimizer for kids and teen…

The television show Lost (2004-2010) was a very talked-about show. With its unordinary storyline, its cliff hangers and its unsolved mysteries, the show kept its audience riveted. The show is questions within questions: mysteries on top of other mysteries, comedy, love stories, action/adventure and science fiction. J.J Abrams, the producer of the show, tried to create a nail-biter, a provoking show like a good novel that never quits. The producer has created a timeless television show, touching on every aspect of the human condition by subjecting flawed but redeemable characters to extraordinary situations.…

It is no secret that the television has now become a staple device in the average American home. The history of the television has evolved tremendously compared to when television sets were first introduced to the public in the early 1940’s. Over the last sixty years, they are slimmer, produce sharp images, and come in various makes and models. Not only can these physical contributions be noted, television programs often correlate to what is going on in the outside world. Lauren Zalaznick, television executive, argues that television has a conscious and its popular programs reflect similar characteristics of the American society.…

When negative events such as wars, violence against certain groups, personal loss of one kind or another, or other traumatic events happen, we are left without words. Perhaps we are unable to explain the pain we have felt and the shock that has ensued, leaving us grasping for words. Our minds cannot form sentences as we try to understand the events surrounding us. But perhaps a closer look would show that our language skills have declined, no longer having a vocabulary large enough to allow us to describe the feelings we have. As such, we may resort to swearing to adequately gain the reaction that we desire, using words that fall more bluntly on the ears depending on the severity of the situation.…

Television can have long lasting and detrimental effects on children and young adults. While entertaining, watching T.V. can cause negative effects on physical and cognitive health, decreasing children’s amount of physical activity and sometimes impede brain development. Behaviorally, some television shows promote aggressive behavior in children and reinforce stereotypes. When looking into television shows to observe, I decided to select T.V. shows I had watched when I was a child.…

The United States has countless children aged 10-14 viewing violent and traumatizing motion pictures. Most have seen the harsh movie The Dark Knight, which has a PG-13 rating. This horrifying film continuously shows the main character, as a terrorizing joker who enjoys to kill for entertainment. This is unacceptable because it teaches children and young teens it is perfectly normal to kill without having any type of reasoning behind the madness and insanity. Furthermore, countless details support the conclusion that extreme violence should not be witnessed at young ages.…

There are television shows in where people are arguing, fighting, and screaming. Of course those shows aren’t meant to target teenagers or children, but nobody could stop them from watching. One show that might be targeted at teenagers would be MTV’s Teen Moms. The producers might want to let the teenagers know that it is difficult raising a child at a young age, but there are still arguments and fights with the parents of the children. Those aren’t healthy relationships that the network is showing, but they don’t care because the only thing that matters is viewers.…

Parents can combat the effects of television violence by following a few simple steps. First, parents should monitor, and limit the time their children spend watching television (Anderson). The less time watched, the less influence television will have. Second, parents should explain to children that violence on television is not right even if it is made to seem that way. Third, parents can simply watch television with their children, discussing the content with them.…
