To be persistent, continue to do something even though it is difficult or some might want you to stop (Merriam, 2016). The paradox, stubbornness verses persistence, they seem like very similar entities, but are very different behaviors. One main difference between both sides of the paradox is motive. People who are persistent are motivated by their goals they have set. While someone who is stubborn is pursuing on, not because of motive, but because of pride. Stubbornness brings more of a negative connotation in today’s society. One would rather be known to be persistent, than to be known as suborn. Thus, we have ourselves a paradox. The paradox, persistence vs. stubbornness, can affect personality depending on which component of the paradox is being expressed. On the stubbornness part of the paradox, the paradox can cause a negative impact on the personality of the host. One of the main difference between persistence and stubbornness is that persistence is goal oriented. Being stubborn can cause a delay in learning and of the personality. Someone who is stubborn, traps themselves in their way of thinking. They are not open to new ideas, to accomplish a goal or to other aspects in everyday life. These people will not advance in life if their way of doing things does not help them get closer to their goal. On the contrary, people who express the persistence side of the paradox will influence their personality positively. People who are persistent, their main objective is to accomplish a goal. These people will grow and change to accomplish their goal. Persistence will help personality grow, becoming more open-mindedness and finding new characteristics. Overall, the paradox helps change personality in very different ways. They both influence each other in many ways. The paradox itself does not seem to be at war with each other. They may in fact have the same end
