The term mafia originates from Italy which basically means groups of people that do criminal activities in an organized manner but also have a ruthless behaviour to them. In addition, it is also characterized as organized crime which is defined as “criminal activities that are planned and controlled by powerful groups and carried out on a large scale” (oxford dictionary). Famous organized crime groups such as Bratva, the biggest brotherhood and crime syndicate in Russia and Cosa Nostra, a big criminal organisation in Sicily, Italy which is also known as Sicilian Mafia.
