For most of Oedipus' life, he was innocently under the firm impression that his parents were Polybus and Merope. However, in an oracle proclaimed to Oedipus by the gods, it was predestined that he would kill his father and commit an act of incest with his birth mother. With fear and determination to stop and keep that from happening, Oedipus relocates far away from his "parents". This includes the suicide and self-destruction of Jocasta when she realized the truth and the loss of Oedipus’ eyesight when he found Jocasta hung by her own hand. He blinds himself because he could not bear to see the world, better yet recognize it, with now having learned the truth. Furthermore, Oedipus quickly resorted to accuse Creon of Treason when he is first verbally slammed with the truth. After accepting the truth and piercing his two eyes, Oedipus openly suggests his banishment and appears ready and prepared to receive his justice. Justice was something that Oedipus never found and never recognized. But with the exhibition of the truth, he finally understood it. He was, alas, able to overcome his ignorance and deniability, and save the city of Thebas from the “pollution” it was suffering
