What Is My Work Ethic

Decent Essays
I grew up in a family that struggled financially; I knew what it was like to constantly worry about money and sacrifice things that were wanted and needed. I believe that is where my work ethic came from. Working hard to help my family and then eventually that lead to working very hard so I would never have to experience those feelings again. Although growing up my family struggle financially, to the outside world no one would have ever guessed. I remember when I was around age of thirteen my friend came over to my house and said in front of my parents “Wow your house is nice, you must be rich”. Just because I lived in a decent house in a development, she assumed that. I learned to understand why she thought this way when I went to her house. …show more content…
Her mother was single mother of five, raising my friend and her siblings by herself. I think that was the point of my life that I realized there was a separation between her and I. She was expected to assist with raising her siblings while I only babysat my siblings. I was expected to do well in school so I could eventually go to college, her family wanted her to succeed in school too, but there was not nearly as much pressure as I had. Also, I think growing up in the school environment that I did shaped my thoughts on my own social class. I always felt the pressure to have the same clothes and items that my friends did. I remember I felt so embarrassed to not have a cell-phone when most of everyone in my class did my sophomore year of high

Work Ethic Work ethic is something that is very important to have, when one has a job. Work ethic is how one works, and also how one does at the job they are doing. I have a couple of reasons of why Work ethic is important, and how it helps us in life. First thing, work ethic gets one noticed more than the average person. Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

I was born as Regina Lim in San Jose, California, the first of my Cambodian immigrant family to be born in the United States of America and the oldest of three siblings. I grew up in a small townhouse with my large family on the east side of San Jose in a pretty rough neighborhood where there was frequent gang activity. For most of my early life, I was raised by my grandparents because my parents had me at a fairly young age and were both busy with either work or school, and sometimes both. Although my grandparents were the ones raising me for the beginning stages of my childhood, they were also occupied most of the time doing what they could to help support our family so I had to learn independence early in life. Learning how to become independent at a young age contributed to me being able to leave home when I was 19 years old.…

I am raised in a hard working household and am taught to do my best in whatever I’m doing. My father is a real estate agent and my mother is a special education teacher. Both of my parents love their jobs and I have never heard them complain. We believe that working is a privilege, and that belief shows throughout our lives. I began working when I was 15 at the local nursing home in Perry County because I couldn’t wait to have the responsibility of a job.…

Intro In the article “Moving up from the Working Class” Morris and Grimes argue that “early socialization within a class culture has deep and abiding effects”. I would agree with this statement, because as I have always grown up in the working class and I am still in it today. I am trying my best to move up and out of the working class, but it is a very hard thing to do because I still have the mentality of being in the working class. This means I still have all my old habits of buying things super cheap and not spending much money on myself.…

I feel that my background has such an impact on me that my application would be incomplete without it. My single immigrant mother has been an incredible inspiration to me. The choices she has made on my behalf have shaped who I am and have contributed to my development from a child who kept to himself into an individual who wants to help others. Living in a single parent household I constantly felt the financial strain. One day when I was at a Target, I tugged at my mom’s arm and told her that I wanted a toy.…

An “independent disposition”. This is the term I have coined to describe the past and future of my academic career. After years of a lack of support for my academics from my family, this independent disposition I have formed has allowed me to surpass the neglect and achieve my personal academic goals. To state more clearly, my family has never expressed an interest in my academic success, yet has proven to be quite beneficial in the long run. Relatively early on in life I formed into the independent individual I am today.…

The interaction that I had with my parents, siblings and other member of my family have an impact on my ethical point of view. Throughout someone’s lifespan a person can endure many trials, tests, troubles, and obstacles. I have not come across anyone who has had a perfect life, and being in the human service profession I especially do not expect to ever find someone who has. As a professional in training I understand that I will be able to someday help others through difficult times in their life like finding a new job, arranging childcare for their children, comforting someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one, or a couple seeking help with their relationship. I also understand that I will be put in the situation to help someone who has different beliefs or comes from a different culture than I have. Such as helping a homosexual individual tell his or her…

Global citizenship is not something that is simply earned as visa stamps on my passport. To me, it's the mindset that my life should be more than a pursuit of conformity, or worse, comfort. Even though I was raised in a stable home, the kind of home that produces conformed, comfortable people, I've learned that ease and placidity are overrated. It all started in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico on a service trip to build a home. It wasn't the scarcity that I saw that opened my eyes, it was that people entrenched in severe poverty were so joyful.…
