Decent Essays
Two things share my passion in life: mental health and musical theatre. Mental health advocation is very important to me because I know many people who have been impacted by mental illness. This covers a spectrum from adhd to ocd, from self harm to eating disorders, from stress to bipolar disorder. I believe it is important that people who struggle with issues seek help and are not stigmatized for it. This passion runs so deeply that I chose my independent study course to focus on mental health and illness in adolescents. Outside of that, I also am incredibly passionate about musical theatre. I found theatre in preschool when I did a performance of a musical about the solar system. Between that experience and seeing my first professional show,

“If I were Shannon Miller this would not happen,” I often thought as I positioned my body onto the bar. I hated heights and even being a few feet in the air on the highest uneven bar unsettled me. It seemed as if I were on the peak of a mountain top and my oxygen supply was thinning out. With an abundance of new characters in “When Calls the Heart” this season, sometimes only the most observant viewers might notice the handful of smaller roles that pop up now and then on the show. I was immeasurably excited when I finally figured out who the character Katie Yost was, and once I connected with the actress who portrays her, Larissa Albequerque, I knew at once that I wanted to find out more about this young actress. Thankfully, she was able to set aside some time recently to chat about WCTH as well as give insight into the occasionally overlooked Katie Yost. What inspired you to become an actress? I have dabbled with art ever since I was a toddler. I would draw anywhere I went: school, home, and even at church. It started out as a hobby, but soon, I immersed myself into the world of art by integrating art with medicine. I have always found medical dramas to be particularly intriguing. Developing into this interest, I started writing my own medical journal, where I took notes from a book called Gray’s Anatomy and from the medical dramas I watched.…

I thoroughly enjoyed the outline creating process as it helped bring all my thoughts together for my topic. There is a romanticized stigmatism going around that if you are…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…
