What Is My Passion For Baseball Essay

Decent Essays
At five years old, dirt clouds that formed when sliding into home plate sparked my passion for baseball. Later, a scholarship to Berkeley for baseball informed my college experience with the dedication required by such a program often reflected in my grades and coursework selections. I have not had a formal math course since high school. Unquestionably, the sport provided amazing experiences all over the world, including Japan for the World Baseball Games and in Texas as a professional player. Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

From my first trip to Fenway as a wide-eyed six year old to discovering Bill James’ scientific approach to the sport in his Baseball Abstract at age fifteen, “America’s pastime” has been a central part of my life. What began as childhood escapism, however, has since taken on greater importance in my mind. It has been said, I believe quite rightly, that baseball is a microcosm of America’s successes and contradictions. It’s a symbol of egalitarianism, national pride, and unity with a troubled history of racism, fraud, and violence.…

My father took me into town driving our Burgundy 1980 Chevy Malibu Classic. As we parked the car, I asked my dad” what are we doing here”?…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

I’ve been playing baseball ever since I could pick up a bat. Since then, I’ve been to countless practices and played in hundreds of games. Baseball is essentially a second life, and if you were to step into my room, for example, you’d see a childhood baseball bat leaning against my nightstand, several baseballs on my dresser and scattered on the floor, and a picture of Wrigley Field displayed on my wall. I spent most of my summer travelling across the Southeast playing in tournaments in Atlanta, Charleston, and Raleigh, where I was able to experience playing against very talented players in front of several college coaches. These tournaments have given me some of the greatest experiences of my life, and really reflect just why and how much I love baseball.…

Baseball Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, and it will always be the longest sport I’ve played. A total of 9 years in Khoury league and 2 years in high school, so all in all I have been playing this sport almost all my life. I started baseball with the Red Bud T-ball team, the team had a count of 15 people including me and excluding the coaches. Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…
