During the tournament, the team performed extremely well, making it to finals. Although, we came up short in the final, I was impressed by the teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship of my players. Although, I struggled at times, I believe my patience and empathetic understanding influenced my players to have…
An achievement and experience that has had a significant impact on my life is being selected as a Monthly Service Coordinator for the UAB Leadership and Service Council during my undergraduate studies. The purpose of the Leadership and Service Council is to plan and coordinate service projects for the entire UAB community as well as providing members with an opportunity to develop leadership skills. Events planned by the Leadership and Service Council include the September Service Madness, Into the Streets, Hunger Banquet, Ongoing Service, Monthly Service Projects and more. Not only was being selected for the Leadership and Service Council a great personal achievement for myself, it was also a fulfilling experience. Before college, I was heavily…
The most important accomplishment I attained that season was that we were playoff champions. I finished the year with the League MVP, Playoff MVP, 21 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and 6 assists per game. After the season ended, I put my stats on a college recruiting website. A few weeks after, my mother and I got a call from a college scout.…
Five years in a row, undefeated each season, had the best team in the league. It was just another Sunday afternoon, my team and I were prepared for another championship game. Going into the games we held our heads high, knowing we were the defending champs for five years straight, never losing a game, and absolutely destroying our opponents by large margins of victory. It was the Huskies vs. the Heat, you could say they were our rivals, but we knew that they couldn’t handle the competition we competed at. Every game we played against them, we blew them out, enjoying the sweet taste of victory.…
The season was a dream, nothing in life had been that much of a breeze. We chopped down team by team. Not one thing could distract us boys. We didn’t lose all season, nor did we in the playoffs. I was having so much fun, laying out, making plays, my teammates and I loving every second of it.…
My efforts to finish Bloomsday My finest accomplishment was completed when I was nine. This achievement was done with the help of my family's athletic ability and capability to run. They indoctrinated me to believe in running. That's why I'm a runner today. My family convinced me to do Bloomsday.…
One achievement that I will not forget anytime soon is my trip as an ambassador for USA Hockey to Moscow, Russia during my freshman year. Through an application process and essay, I was one of five male hockey payers selected from California and one of twenty selected overall to represent the United States in an exchange program the two countries. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had to not only represent my country, but also have a first-hand experience with a completely different culture. I spent a week training with my peers, both American and Russian, alongside Russian Olympic coaches. I also had to privilege to tour Moscow with various government officials and learned about Russia’s rich history in ways I would have never…
I took it upon myself to encourage everyone to remain optimistic and try even harder to do well. My strategy helped us improve, and even if we still were not winning, we were at least acting as a team and making small adjustments, especially in communication and overall teamwork. In the middle of the season, I was hit in the head and got a concussion. The hardest part of my recovery was being told that I could not go to games or practices; I could not even go to watch.…
Something we have not been able to bring to our school in three years to almost winning our regional’s that we were not even predicted to make it out of our district tournament. All in all it was the best season I had of high school baseball, I became close with all my teammates we went to battle together and we formed a “brotherhood” that to this day is still an amazing one I am still close with everyone on that team. I would do anything to go back and play another season with them. We Tried to achieve something that our school has not done in a long time and that was go to states and we fell just short.…
The trophy that we received is not worth half of what the trip meant to my teammates and I. We often joke about when we get older and well in our careers that we will travel back to the Bahamas and have even more fun. During this one trip, I learned to be grateful for what I had and to stop complaining about what I didn’t have; that trip made me realize I was truly blessed. I am forever grateful for the chance to be a part of such a great basketball team, but an even greater sisterhood; the Bahamas trip was the icing on the cake of my high school basketball…
Being an athlete might just be the most rewarding thing. It is one of the greatest privileges I have been given. To this day I am thankful that I was given the ability to play. Without this, I would of never been able to meet amazing teammates, great mentors, get to travel around the country, and have an activity that would keep me out of trouble. I was especially privileged that my parents could support me so that I could play club, go to extra camps, and participate in strength and conditioning.…
I never realized that it meant so much to me. I never realized that all of the blood, sweat, and tears would actually pay off. Until 8th grade tryouts, I didn’t even know why I played basketball. On this day, I had to compete for a spot on the basketball team against 30 to 40 other players. Just let me tell you, hardwork and dedication does pay off.…
The Obstacles that Prevent Me from Reaching My Goal Core beliefs are beliefs that are repeated thoughts that people hold on too strongly. “These beliefs become the lenses through which we see the world. Whether accurate or distorted, our beliefs dictate the choices we make at each fork in the road” (Downing 178). When I was a little kid, I unconsciously formed core beliefs about the world, other people, and myself. For instance, throughout my childhood, my parents tended and comforted me, and they provided food and warmth for me.…
Our basketball team hadn’t won a championship game since 1992. It was my senior year and my last shot at redemption against the defending champs. The whole season we only lost one game, we were projected to lose, and we were the underdogs. We had one week left to prepare for what was the largest game of my high school career. Monday’s practice was the worst of the week, we only ran and shot free throws.…
What are you most proud of and why? My education… because mastering it has been a huge challenge for me! Due in large part to my own willful blindness, my education got off to a pretty bad start.…
