What Is My Favorite Memorial

Washington, D.C., is located on the Potomac River between Maryland and Virginia. Washington, D.C., is full of many monuments and memorials. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and The Holocaust Memorial Museum are a few of the most well know memorials. My favorite memorial is the Marine Corps Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial. This historic memorial was sculpted based off of a picture taken by Joe Rosenthal who was at the island of Iwo Jima with the Associated Press. Visiting memorials, monuments, and museums is very important because it is a way to learn about your country’s history, and remember those who have served. If you think about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, it is a powerful place that honors every Vietnam War veteran. What if there was no memorial? How would people know and respect the service that these people have done for the whole country? Washington, D.C., is a great place to go and learn. It is a very historical city, and it was cool to see the things I have read about in textbooks and seen in movies in person. There are many Smithsonians and museums to visit. The architecture is the city is also very cool. I really enjoyed going to my country's capital for a week with my 8th grade class. The only memorial that Washington, D.C., doesn't have is an Army Veterans Memorial. My dad was in the army, and I think that they should have a memorial to honor people that have died in the army. If there was an Army Veterans Memorial, I think it would look like a giant globe, since people in the army can be stationed all over the world.
