What Is My Cultural Identity Essay

A compelling idea, cultural identity is a concoction of elements made up of the beliefs a person absorbs from their cultural surroundings. Through my cultural identity I have learned to interpret and interact with the world around me. I often struggle with my own personal belief that individualism is more important than fitting in because I often find myself compromising my beliefs to try to fit in with my peers. Trying to maintain individuality and integrity are both ideas that I value, but they conflict with my desire to fit in with those around me. As I try to comprehend and make sense of the world around me, my cultural identity guides me. Seeing the world through the eyes of an American, my culture influences my entire life. Surrounding me are the people and ideas that all influence me in ways I am unaware of and it is paramount to really analyze how culture forms and shapes my opinions. Influential ideas and beliefs fill the world and maintaining a clear voice is essential to understand how culture influences thoughts and ideas. But even so, my passion for learning and innate curiosity fuel my creativity and innovation and instill in me a love for knowledge and a love of the world I live in.
