I observed Mrs. Ollie’s three-year-old classroom. The general atmosphere of the class room was calm. The children eight in total were sitting on the carpet waiting to wash their hands before lunch time. At 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Ollie told the children to stand up one by one as she called their names out loud individually. Karen is facing a real challenge as an amateur Spanish teacher. She seems to have a passion for her career; however, that is not enough to successfully manage and teach a classroom with rough students. In this case, Karen is not only facing a main trouble student (Jeff) and the whole class that supports him, but also she is not getting enough school administration support due to ineffective school/district (transportation, lunch, and classroom transitions) policies. In order for Karen to turn around this misbehave classroom, she needs to work in the source of the problem (Jeff) mainly by building a relationship with him, bringing parental involvement to the case, and by involving other staff and school administrators. Sometimes adults just…

Usually after this was done, we would quietly walk in a single file line down the hallway to the playground. That day, however, it was different. When I opened my eyes, instead of an orderly line of kindergartners, there was one little boy chaotically jumping up and down. As red in the face as a tomato, he seemed to be getting antsier by the second. “Teacher!…

I did notice when my son went to transitional kindergarten that what was expected from him was what a kindergarten back then would be learning. When he went to kindergarten he was expected to know more than what I remember was required before.…
